Green Hill's volleyball team carries a District 12-AAA championship into Tuesday's Region 6-AAA Tournament, with a state sectional berth at stake.

The Hawks open against James Lawson at 5 p.m. at Green Hill High School, according to the TSSAA bracket published by Yahoo Sports. Hillsboro and Station Camp meet in the other semifinal at the same time. The two winners play for the region title at 7:30 p.m., and the champion advances to the sectional Thursday, Oct. 15.

Green Hill earned the hosting rights by winning the District 12-AAA title Oct. 6 at Portland, sweeping Station Camp 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22). Senior Maddie Long earned tournament MVP honors with 13 kills and several key digs in the championship match, according to Main Street Media.

Long doubles as an outside hitter and left-back libero for the Hawks. Entering the district tournament, she led the team in kills (197) and digs (279).

"I definitely love my back row. I love hitting, but I definitely love the chance I get to play left back, and I try to show up for my team in any way I can," Long said after the district championship win Oct. 6.

Head coach Michelle Plummer, now in her seventh year leading the program, said the Hawks came out fired up. The team had reached the district title match for a fifth straight year. Their sweep snapped Station Camp's streak of seven consecutive district championships dating to 2017.

Seven players recorded a kill in the second set of the district final. Julia Cleveland and Long led with five apiece. Long sealed the match with a right-handed kill to the right side.

The program's postseason pedigree runs deep. As of mid-September, Green Hill had won 20 consecutive district matches over two seasons. In a September profile by Main Street Media, Plummer credited the team's experience as a competitive edge.

"I think they know that it feels like to win, which sometimes is a huge advantage," Plummer said in September. "They've had that experience the last two, three, four years."

The roster is deep. Seniors Amelia Parker and Ainsley Booher run the two-setter offense. Emma Savage and Jill Hunter share libero duties. Senior middle hitter Tatum Crouch has taken on a new back-row role and has drawn college interest from Lincoln Memorial, Trevecca and Converse.

The Green Hill Sports Network plans to livestream Tuesday's tournament.
