Station Camp defeated Green Hill 3-2 in the Region 6-AAA volleyball championship Tuesday, Oct. 13, ending the Hawks' bid to host a state sectional match.
The Bison won 27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 22-25, 15-11 at Green Hill High School in a match that seesawed through all five sets, as first reported by the Chronicle of Mt. Juliet. It was Station Camp's first region championship since 2021.
The loss came in the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. Green Hill had beaten Station Camp in the District 12-AAA championship Oct. 6.
Station Camp sophomore Brooklyn Mitchell delivered a go-ahead kill late in the first set. In the second, a block by Isabella Martin and a kill by Zoey Rowland stretched a Bison lead that ballooned to eight points.
Green Hill answered.
The Hawks scored the first six points of the third set and held off a late Station Camp charge behind kills from Gia Faccadio and Julia Cleveland. Senior Tatum Crouch then broke a 21-21 tie in the fourth set with a block that forced a winner-take-all fifth.
Station Camp senior Teagan Lange, named Region 6-AAA Tournament MVP, rallied the Bison before the decisive set. Mitchell gave Station Camp a 5-3 lead with consecutive kills, and the Bison grabbed an 8-7 advantage they never relinquished.
Station Camp coach Molly Yarbrough credited Lange's leadership, saying Lange told her teammates they had nothing to lose and urged them to fight for the home sectional. "The girls just responded to her," Yarbrough said.
Green Hill seventh-year coach Michelle Plummer said her team lost its composure early. She said the Hawks got caught up in calls that didn't go their way in the first two sets, and she told them to refocus on what they could control.
Plummer said she was proud of the way they forced a fifth set.
Green Hill (23-9) now travels to one-loss Franklin on Friday, Oct. 16, for a Class AAA Sectional match. A win would send the Hawks to their first TSSAA state tournament in program history. The stakes were clear: the region champion hosts a sectional, and the runner-up hits the road to Williamson County.
Station Camp (27-12) hosts Summit in its sectional match the same evening.
Plummer said the Hawks plan to tighten things up in practice and play the volleyball they know how to play at Franklin. She said everyone in the state has Franklin penciled in for the state tournament. "So we'll be underdogs, and maybe we can surprise them," Plummer said.
