Jeremiah Steele rushed for three touchdowns as Mt. Juliet pulled away for a 34-12 road win over Clarksville Northeast on Friday, Sept. 25, spoiling the Eagles' homecoming.
The Golden Bears improved to 3-3 on the season. Both teams entered the non-region matchup at 2-3.
Mt. Juliet's rushing attack controlled the game after a back-and-forth opening, Main Street Preps reported. The Golden Bears scored twice in the second quarter to build a 20-6 halftime lead, then kept pulling away in the second half. The game report credited big plays on both sides of the ball for the victory.
Steele's three scores led the ground attack. His touchdowns anchored a physical rushing game that wore down Northeast's defense as the night went on.
The win gives head coach Trey Perry's squad back-to-back victories after a 1-3 start to the season. Mt. Juliet lost to Beech 53-21 on Aug. 28, fell to Antioch in Week 2, then beat Friendship Christian 30-0 on Sept. 4 before dropping a 28-7 decision to Lebanon on Sept. 11.
A 49-14 win at Jefferson County on Sept. 18 started the two-game winning streak. Reporter David Wilson wrote in a Sept. 17 picks column that Mt. Juliet's "troubles from last season resurfaced" after the Lebanon loss. The Golden Bears have answered with 83 combined points over the past two weeks.
Mt. Juliet hosts Gallatin on Friday, Oct. 2.
