Wilson Central managed just 40 total yards and one completed pass as Nashville Overton shut out the Wildcats 9-0 on Senior Night in Gladeville.

The Sept. 19 loss dropped Wilson Central to 0-6 on the season, as first reported by the Lebanon Democrat.

Overton's defense struck first. With 11 seconds left in the first quarter, Bobcat defender Nathan Ball Jr. tackled Wilson Central's Carter Page in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead.

The sequence started after Wilson Central quarterback Mason Crume threw a fourth-down interception that left the ball at the 3-yard line. Head coach Josh Knipfel wanted to accept a penalty called on Overton, but officials signaled it declined. On the next snap, Wildcat running back Darian Morton fumbled near the goal line. Overton's Jacory Martin recovered in the end zone, but officials ruled Morton's forward progress had stopped at the 1-yard line before the ball came loose, negating the apparent touchdown. Ball's safety tackle came on the following play.

The score stayed 2-0 until the third quarter.

Overton's Randall Rison capped a 12-play, 66-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run at 6:07, and Hampton Mims added the extra point to make it 9-0. Rison led Overton's ground game with 57 yards on 20 carries. The Bobcats ran for 166 yards on 50 attempts and recorded 14 first downs, 11 on the ground.

Wilson Central's offense finished with four first downs, 32 rushing yards on 22 carries and 8 passing yards. Crume scrambled for 43 yards on four carries but went 0-for-4 passing with an interception. Backup Colby Scott completed the Wildcats' lone pass, going 1-for-5 for 8 yards. The team's best scoring chance came in the fourth quarter when Scott's fourth-down throw from the Overton 37 sailed over his receiver.

Defensive back Beckham Fehrman recorded an interception for the Wildcats. Overton finished 3-for-14 passing with two interceptions.

"Defense played well. The whole year they've been doing a good job on defense," Knipfel said. "Offensively all season, that's on me. I'm not doing a good enough job … we've got to perform better and I've got to be a better football coach."

Wilson Central hosts Lebanon at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. Lebanon entered Week 6 ranked No. 8 in Class 6A by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association with a 4-1 record, according to the Tennessean.
