Several Mt. Juliet-area schools are running near capacity as the Wilson County Board of Education prepares for its next regular meeting Thursday, Oct. 15.
The board meets at 6 p.m. at the district's Administrative & Training Complex, 415 Harding Drive in Lebanon. No formal agenda had been posted as of Oct. 11. The district's meeting notice describes an open format to "discuss any matters legally brought before the Board."
Residents who want to speak must fill out a "Request to Appear" form on the Wilson County Schools website, wcschools.com, and submit it to the board secretary or any board member before the 6 p.m. start.
Capacity and enrollment
At the board's Sept. 8 meeting, Mt. Juliet Elementary, Mt. Juliet Middle, West Wilson Middle, Green Hill High and Wilson Central High all sat between 80 and 89 percent capacity, Main Street Media reported. Lebanon High School led the district at 95 percent capacity with 1,892 students.
Director of Schools Travis Mayfield reported enrollment was up 156 students from the end of the 2025-2026 school year, even as the overall student population dipped from its high of 20,855 that year.
Bus transportation also improved sharply. Downed routes dropped 92 percent year over year, falling from 352 in August 2025 to 31 as of the Sept. 8 meeting. An additional 75 routes were delayed that month.
TISA feedback window open
Separately, Wilson County Schools has opened a public feedback window on its TISA Accountability Report. State law (T.C.A. § 49-3-112) requires the district to submit the strategic plan annually to the Tennessee Department of Education and present it for public review first.
The district posted the report Oct. 2 and invited parents, educators and community members to weigh in on its goals and strategies. No closing date for comments has been announced.
Student board members
Board Chairman Joseph Padilla said at the Sept. 8 meeting that the board wants to expand the role of its student representatives, now required by state law. "We really enjoy our student board members … They are an asset and each year we hope to improve and get them a little bit more involved," Padilla said.
Student members from Mt. Juliet-area high schools for the 2026-2027 school year include Durden Brooks from Green Hill High, Aven DeHart from Mt. Juliet High and Ross Perlick from Wilson Central High.
The Oct. 15 meeting is open to the public. The TISA feedback window remains open at wcschools.com.
