The Mt. Juliet Fire Department banned all outdoor burning within city limits Monday, Sept. 21, citing dry conditions and an increased risk of rapidly spreading fires.
The ban covers brush and leaf burning, burn piles, bonfires, recreational fires, outdoor debris or trash burning and open-flame fire pits. It remains in place until further notice.
The department said in a Facebook post that even a small outdoor fire can get out of control quickly in dry conditions. The department asked residents to postpone all outdoor burning to reduce the risk of preventable fires and protect homes, property and first responders.
Mt. Juliet is not alone. WSMV reported that Hendersonville also issued a burn ban as dry and hot conditions persist across Middle Tennessee.
The fire department said it will update residents when conditions improve and the restriction is lifted. Residents can follow the Mt. Juliet Fire Department's Facebook page for updates.
