Mt. Juliet police officers handed out medals at the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee's annual Extra Mile walk Saturday, Oct. 24, in Lebanon.
The event at the Wilson County Ag Center raised more than $306,000 and counting, Fox 17 reported. Fox 17 called it the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee's (DSAMT) biggest event of the year.
The Mt. Juliet Police Department said on X that officers had "the pleasure of supporting participants and handing out medals" at the walk. The department said The Extra Mile Foundation works to raise awareness, promote acceptance and provide funding for local programs supporting individuals with Down syndrome.
Two teams led the fundraising push. Owen's Army and Emily's Army each raised more than $50,000, according to Fox 17.
DSAMT supports more than 1,200 families across Middle Tennessee with first calls and connections after a diagnosis, Fox 17 reported. The DSAMT website describes The Extra Mile as the largest Down syndrome awareness event in Tennessee and the organization's primary source of funding.
All money raised stays in Middle Tennessee, according to the Wilson County Source.
The walk took place at 175 Peyton Road on the grounds of the Wilson County Ag Center.
