Drivers on I-840 near Mt. Juliet face rolling roadblocks for private developer blasting operations between mile markers 68 and 70 in Wilson County.
The closures run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and began Monday, Oct. 26. TDOT posted on X on Sunday, Oct. 25, that the westbound rolling roadblock would stretch from the I-40 on-ramp to east of Exit 72 (Central Pk) through Thursday, Oct. 29.
TDOT's Region 3 Lane Closure Report for the week of Oct. 25 through Oct. 31 tells a different story. The report lists the same blasting roadblock as running Monday, Oct. 26, through Saturday, Oct. 31, in both the westbound and eastbound directions. The X post mentions only westbound traffic. The lane closure report includes both.
Drivers should plan for possible stops in either direction between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until the discrepancy is clarified.
The stretch of I-840 near Exit 72 sits just south of the I-40/I-840 interchange in western Wilson County. The interchange connects I-840 to the I-40 corridor that runs through Mt. Juliet and on toward Lebanon.
The lane closure report classifies the blasting work as "Construction Activities (Not TDOT Projects)," meaning a private developer is responsible. Neither the X post nor the closure report names the developer or describes what is being built.
Separately, TDOT has its own overnight work on the same stretch of highway. A milling and paving project on I-840 between mile markers 65.8 and 70.5 in Wilson County began Sunday, Oct. 25, and continues nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Oct. 30, according to the same closure report. Multiple lanes in both directions are affected during those overnight hours.
Between the daytime blasting roadblocks and the overnight paving, drivers using I-840 through western Wilson County face disruptions around the clock on some days.
The full lane closure schedule is available in TDOT's Region 3 Lane Closure Report.
