Texas Roadhouse in Mt. Juliet hosts Charlie Daniels Night on Wednesday, Oct. 28, honoring what would have been the country music legend's 90th birthday.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and features giveaways and Charlie Daniels T-shirts for attendees, Wilson County Source reported. The Mt. Juliet Police Department and Mt. Juliet Fire Department will also take part.

The celebration recognizes the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, the nonprofit that continues Daniels' legacy of supporting veterans and military families.

A Mt. Juliet icon

Charles Edward Daniels was born Oct. 28, 1936, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was best known for "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. He died July 6, 2020, at age 83.

Daniels' ties to Mt. Juliet run deep. The city named Charlie Daniels Park in his honor, a complex off the Cedar Creek Greenway with a 9,000-square-foot playground, a skate park, volleyball courts and a splash pad, according to the city's parks page.

His son, Charlie Daniels Jr., wrote on the family's website that Oct. 28 marks the start of what he called "the tenth decade of Charlie Daniels." Plans include a touring show called The Legend of Charlie Daniels, which premiered July 5 at Fort Campbell, along with a documentary and a stage musical based on "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Veteran mission with local roots

Daniels and his longtime manager, David Corlew, co-founded the Journey Home Project in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans return to civilian life. The organization has raised more than $4.5 million over 11 years, according to the project's website.

That work has touched Wilson County directly. In May, the Journey Home Project partnered with Shield 616 to provide advanced ballistic vests to the Wilson County Sheriff's Department.

Corlew, the project's president, said the organization plans to expand that effort to equip school resource officers across Wilson County's school system.

"Supporting our veterans isn't something we do one day a year," Corlew said in a November 2025 statement. "It's something we should do every day."

The City of Mt. Juliet promoted the event on its official Facebook page, inviting residents to celebrate "a country music legend."

Charlie Daniels Night runs until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Texas Roadhouse in Mt. Juliet.
